KIRTON AND FALKENHAM GARDENERS CLUB
Next meeting : Thurs. 12th. November – Simon White –‘Holly Wreath Making’

October meeting
Guy Barker ‘ Winter Table Displays ‘
For our October meeting it was the ever popular Guy Barker talking on winter table displays. Self taught but guided by his awesome sounding grandmother Guy put together some impressive displays using a variety of plants and shrubs. Guy , of course, is now a self employed gardener and trained at Otley and lives at Wilby with his dog and two cats. He cares for three large gardens in the area and hopefully we may be able to arrange a summer evening visit in 2017.
An entertaining speaker , the evening passed all too quickly.
Committee meeting
A committee meeting was held in October when Jenny presented the programme for 2016 and Ray reported that the new season’s catalogues had been received from Dobies. The club’s finances remain in a healthy state.
Sarah King, secretary and Malcolm Robertson were welcomed on to the committee,
November meeting – Thurs. 12th. November - Simon White – ‘Holly Wreath Making’ - Village Hall 7.30pm.
For our November meeting we welcome Simon White whose seasonal talk is ‘Holly Wreath Making’ . Simon will also be bringing wreath making kits for sale. It’s November so we will really be getting into the swing of things and this means be there early as we will also have our tickets for the Christmas party on sale at £5 for members. You have been warned , get there early!
Christmas party –Thurs. 10th. December – 7.30pm Church Hall
‘Plant Hunter with a Passion’ - Tom Hart Dyke.
Christmas will soon be upon us and we eagerly look forward to our seasonal party when our guest speaker will be Tom Hart Dyke plant hunter extraordinaire. Tom, of TV and RHS fame, travels the world in the pursuit of rare and unusual plants and has been incarcerated for his pains – a plant hunter with a passion indeed.
We will be in the Church Hall for this special evening for which tickets will be on sale to members at the October meeting so make sure to book your place, this promises to be something special.
We will be running a grand draw for club funds and we would welcome prizes to committee members or just bring on the night.
There will be the usual refreshments for which a list will be circulating at the November meeting – are, a list circulating , the answer to the world’s problems!
Two lots of punch will be served , your choice.
So there we are our last event for 2015 – make sure of your ticket!

Tales from the Allotments
The season of mists and mellow fruits is upon us and plot holders are rushing around gathering crops ere the winter storms begin. The pleasure of sharing crops is almost as that of growing. My friend Bob has helped with picking Bramleys and, as an ex fireman, did ladder duties this year. At one stage his specs fell from top of the tree, thankfully Bob was not attached. Rosemary had 999 on speed dial but all is safely gathered in without injury.
