October meeting - Hodmedods – Josia Meldrum - Hodmedods is a small but fast growing business, founded by Josia and two partners in 2012 to source and supply beans and other products from British farms. Previously Josia had worked in Norfolk with govt departments, John Innes seed bank, Defra and local farmers to bring diversity into farming and support agricultural systems aimed at production of veg and fruit. August visit - Shawsgate Vineyard & Winery, Framlingham.
Les, owner, welcomed us to Shawsgate on a warm & sunny evening. He bought the vineyard in 2013 & many vines are nearly 50 years old – but can go on fruiting well over 100 years. Les had structured the evening to an audience of gardeners so we started with his talk before going over to the serious business of tasting and then going on a tour of the vineyard and winery. Cars Green 6.00pm or assemble 7.00pm.

June visit - Swann’s Nursery, Bromeswell.
This visit made up for the scheduled trip last year which had to be cancelled due to bad weather. 30 members made the trip and we were given a talk and conducted tour of the 35 acre site. Read More...

May visit - for our May visit we were guests of Material Change, Recycling and Renewable Energy whose site is in the midst of the picturesque village of Creeting St. Mary. The company offers a diverse range of waste management solutions whether it’s waste recycling , composting or anaerobic digestion. The company started business in 2007 and now operates compost sites, processing over 175000 tonnes per annum. Read More...

Note this is an afternoon visit, we leave the green at 1.15 pm or assemble at 2.00 pm.

April meeting - before the meeting Brian paid tribute to Ralph Mowles, club founder member, who died recently.

Know what to do if a swarm of bees turns up and parks in your garden or allotment plot? Well, husband and wife bee keepers, Chris and Marion Stevens our speakers for the evening had the answers, contact a local bee keeper who will be happy to come and take possession of the intruders or phone police 101 or contact Suffolk Bee Keepers Assn.

Christmas meeting –
The Christmas meeting in the church hall took the form of a quiz enjoyed by a good number of members and guests. There were the usual refreshments and thanks to all who supplied the delicious
eats There was a grand draw which raised £99 for club funds and we thank all who donated draw prizes.

January meeting - ‘Minsmere - A Volunteer’s View’ - Val and Alan Bourne.
Minsmere is a nature reserve on the East Suffolk coast owned and managed by the RSPB. The 1000 hectare site has been managed by the RSPB since 1947 and covers areas of reed, grass land,wet grass land, heath, woodland and shingle vegetation. Visiting birds include avocets, bearded tits, bitterns, marsh harriers and little egrits who, as a result of global warming in the last 30 years, can now be seen on the site. Read More...
