MUSIC IN FELIXSTOWE – JUNE NEWSLETTER

Hello, I hope your year is progressing well. I’ve just got back from a week on a Greek Island –lovely!
We are busy rehearsing for an exciting concert this Sunday, June 5th – 3.00pm at St Andrew’s Church.
It is a great pleasure to be working with Anna Noakes, whose flute playing includes concertos with the London orchestras, film work and her own tango band! We have a change of pianist and welcome back John Stafford who is known to most of you as a brilliant musician.

Our programme includes a delightful trio by Weber, music by French composers, Faure, Poulenc and Gaubert, and a brilliant trio by Martinu, whose upbringing in a bell tower is resonant throughout the work.

The last of our Wednesday lunchtime concerts at St Andrew’s will be given by the amazing guitarist, Spencer Horton at 1.00 on June 15th and will be followed with a summer series by up and coming young musicians.

Those of you who sang in the Brahms Requiem might like to purchase a copy of the recording.  It’s a wonderful memory of a truly remarkable performance by singers from all over Suffolk. Give me a ring if you’re interested on 01394 670633. I’m waiting for a price from the sound engineer!

July 3rd at 7.00pm Waldringfield Village Hall
Walton’s “Façade” and Stravinsky’s “The Soldiers Tale”.
The line up for this includes Roland Roberts violin, Gary Kettel- world famous percussionist, Cliff Wybrow clarinet and a host of other musical luminaries. The narrators are Emily Bennett and Charles Hart (who wrote the libretto for Phantom of the Opera)
Tickets are £12 but booked in advance £10 – includes wine. Book tickets online or on 01394 670633.
It promises to be a truly memorable occasion………

Finally – I’m copying this letter which came this week.
“We have recently moved to Felixstowe from Bolton, near Manchester, where we were able to attend Halle Orchestra concerts on a regular basis. Imagine our delight when we found regular classical music concerts in Felixstowe – and such wonderful concerts – the Schubert quintet last Sunday was sublime. Although we loved the Halle orchestra
and the grandeur of the Bridgewater hall, we never felt very close to the musicians, we really appreciate the more intimate setting of the performances in the churches in Felixstowe, And on the doorstep too!”

Thanks very much for this and all similar letters.
Cheers,
Hattie
