Kirton Kestrels F.C.
(Established 1986)
Kirton Kestrels is your local youth football club.
From the humble beginnings of 14 players of different age groups in 1986, we now have 8 different age groups with over 100 players registered.
This is a FA Charter Standard club running 8 age groups from Under-6 (Reception and Year 1) to Under-14. Part of the qualification for the Charter Standard is that ALL our managers become qualified Level 1 coaches, while their assistants have been DBS checked and hold a Safeguarding certificate.
The Level 1 qualification requires 43 hours (total qualification time) + 33 hours (guided learning), which I think you will agree is quite a commitment.
Every youth club these days has to have a Club Welfare Officer and ours is Julie Cremer.
We have a good reputation for being a friendly club with excellent facilities, trying to concentrate on the enjoyment aspect rather than having a win at all costs mentality.
The Under-6’s are the lifeblood of the club and we hope they will progress with us right through the age groups (eventually to Under-16s).
Of course, not all the 100+ players come from Kirton – that would be pretty impossible !!
Our reputation brings in players from all around the local area (Nacton, Bucklesham, Waldringfield plus we ‘steal’ a few from the bigger localities of Ipswich, Trimley and Felixstowe). We have a few female players but no actual girls teams.
The Recreation Ground comes alive on a Saturday morning in the football season. Sometimes there are 3 matches going on at the same time. Often the kitchen is in use serving up bacon butties, coffee etc.
We have so many teams, there is not enough room on the Ground for all the home matches. Many thanks go to Trimley St Martin school, who hire their pitch out to us for our Under-9s and Under-10s.
Football kits are very expensive but luckily we have a brilliant selection of sponsors. Our sponsor details are on the club website.
We hope to bring you an update on progress over the next few months.
Meanwhile, take a look at our website (www.kirtonkestrels.co.uk) to find out more about the club.
