Music for an Autumn Evening 28 September
Illuminati
Saturday 28 September
7:30pm Kirton Church
Illuminati, an a capella group of some 20 singers under the direction of Andrew Gosden, will be performing in Kirton Church.
The programme will be a wide range of choral music from Elizabethan times, music of Thomas Morley John Dowland and others of the period who wrote magnificent madrigals which are still being sung today, and have come down through the centuries. Different periods have embraced them and given them voice along with many other genres of music but all through these, folk songs have been a link and are with us today in many different forms. Gerald Finzi, Michael Tippett in the 20th century, and even singers given to more modern modes have produced music which hopefully will survive as of old.
The evening in Kirton Church will be an exciting and uplifting one that will appeal right across the board to many people.
There will be no tickets but a retiring collection at the end of the evening. Refreshments will be served in the interval.
Come along to Kirton on the 28th of September for an evening of joyful and melodic sounds.

Woodbridge School Swing band – 16 March 2013
7.30 PM Saturday 16th March 2013
In aid of the Friends of Kirton Church
The ever popular Woodbridge School Swing Band will present a concert in the Church Hall at 7.30 pm on Saturday March 16th 2013. The concert will be in two halves with an interval for light refreshments. Admission is free with a retiring collection for the Friends of Kirton Church and the Swing Band music fund.
The Swing Band last played in Kirton in 2009. The hall was packed to bursting and a wonderful concert was enjoyed by over a hundred people. The Head of Music tells me that this year the band is again producing an excellent sound and we are confident that this year’s concert will be every bit as good as the last one. We look forward to seeing you there.

Music in Felixstowe - February Newsletter
The two performances of Mozart by candlelight were wonderful, and the visiting musicians both remarked how challenging and rewarding it was to have so many in the audience and in such close proximity!
I was in a dilemma as to whether to continue having lost £3,000 last year on the concerts. Please support the concerts when you can – we need you!
The next concert is on February 12th at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Old Felixstowe, and features the Ward Quartet. Read More...

A SUMMER COCKTAIL
2nd July 7.30 p.m Kirton Church Hall
Music in Felixstowe
We are busy rehearsing for an exciting concert this Sunday, June 5th – 3.00pm at St Andrew’s Church.
It is a great pleasure to be working with Anna Noakes, whose flute playing includes concertos with the London orchestras, film work and her own tango band! We have a change of pianist and welcome back John Stafford who is known to most of you as a brilliant musician.
Our programme includes a delightful trio by Weber, music by French composers, Faure, Poulenc and Gaubert, and a brilliant trio by Martinu, whose upbringing in a bell tower is resonant throughout the work.

Music in Felixstowe
The next concert in our series is on May 8th at 3.00pm when Mark Messenger, head of strings at the Royal College of Music, will be the leader in a programme which includes the Schubert Cello Quintet and Haydn’s “Lark Quartet”.
This concert will be at St Peter and St Paul’s church (Old Felixstowe).
4 May: STOP PRESS! Mark Messenger is unable to play in the Schubert quintet on Sunday, but I'm delighted to say that Roland Roberts is stepping into his shoes and it will, no doubt, be brilliant.
The next Wednesday lunchtime concert will be on May 18th at 1.00pm at St Andrew’s Church. John Stafford and Christine Whiffen will present a piano duet recital which will include the famous Schubert Fantasy and Fauré’s Dolly Suite.
I am delighted to report that I have recently received the Mayor’s award for services to Felixstowe. As I said recently at the Brahms Requiem, it is due to the support of all the musicians and audiences that the series has been so successful, so “thank you” to everyone.
Hope you’re enjoying this wonderful Spring

Music in Felixstowe July newsletter
We start the month with a new initiative – a series of lunchtime concerts given by talented young Suffolk musicians.
The youngest is harpist, Imogen Ridge aged 13 and the oldest are the 17 and 18 year olds, busy in the middle of their A levels.
The series starts with a lively performance by children from Kingsfleet Primary School here at Old Felixstowe. I regularly help with their singing practice and it’s a real pleasure to have them along to launch the series.
All the concerts are on Wednesday lunchtimes at St Andrew’s Church at 1.00pm and you are welcome to bring your lunch along – we’ll supply the drinks. There is no charge to come in but we will be having a retiring collection. The full list of concerts follows, plus the last three concerts in our Summer season. Please book on 01394 670633 for the concerts at Felixstowe Ferry – the Sailing Club and St Nicholas church – as both have a limited capacity. Read More...
Music in Felixstowe
The programme opens with a lovely set of variations by Beethoven on a theme by Mozart. We then play the sonata by Benjamin Britten – a fantastic work where he experiments with the instruments to create some amazing effects. I last played this work about 15 years ago and the audience were knocked out by it.
To finish the programme we are playing the well-known F major sonata by Brahms – a work of great scope and dimension.
It being the Bank Holiday weekend I hope some of you will think that coming over to Felixstowe to hear such wonderful music is a good idea.
