The Kirton Project supported the work of the Community Concern Society for tsunami relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sri Lanka.
WHAT WAS IT?

This was an initiative we set up here in KIRTON and FALKENHAM to support victims of the Boxing Day 2004 Tsunami. At the beginning of 2005, events were held in the Church Hall, Methodist Chapel and the White Horse Pub and raised a great deal of money for people whose lives had been devastated by the massive tidal wave. As a result of the success of these fund-raisers, a team of people came together to give on-going help to a specific community just south of Colombo, Sri Lanka. We linked up with a group called Community Concern Society (CCS), a non-profit making organisation. All monies raised went direct to CCS and are being used absolutely to help re-establish life for one community. They have now completed the housing project in Dehiwala and people have moved into their flats.
