November 2011

On November 10th Kirton and Falkenham W.I. held their AGM, to help us with which we had a visit from our W.I. Advisor Linda Leigh. During this session we heard reports of our activities during the year plus a summing up of our financial position which is satisfactory. Mrs Iris Hitchen, Miss Valerie Bines and Mrs Judy Walker were confirmed in their positions as President, Secretary and Treasurer for the coming year. Read More...

July 2011

Since our meeting in June, we have lost our two oldest and longest standing members.
Beattie Pepper and May Copping died within 10 days of each other, and members of our Branch had attended both funerals.
Our meeting started with the singing of Jerusalem and a two minute silence in memory of these two lovely ladies who will be greatly missed.

Our speaker this month was Clifford Bull, an osteomyologist who has practices in both Felixstowe and Woodbridge. Read More...

May 2011

On Thursday 5th May Kirton and Falkenham W.I. gathered at the Bowls Club in Felixstowe for a fish and chip lunch arranged for us by Mrs Pauline Swift who is a Bowls Club member. Many thanks to Pauline and to Iris Hitchen, our president, who provided the desserts and to her husband Terry for all their hard work.
Our May meeting is devoted to discussing the resolutions which will go before the national AGM at Liverpool in June.

APRIL REPORT

At our meeting on April 14th Mr Pip Wright came to talk to us and show us photos on the theme of ‘Exploring Suffolk by Bus Pass’. As most of us are of an age to own one of these things we were eager to get information about how to use them in order to set out on some local adventures. Read More...

March 2011

At our recent committee meetings we have been busy planning activities for the coming year. Several of us went to the Federation AGM at Trinity Park on the 8th of March with our president Iris Hitchen acting as delegate. Then on April the 12th we will be attending the Annual Group Meeting at Walton Trades and Labour Club, the Group consisting, besides Kirton and Falkenham, of Felixstowe Morning, West End, Brackenbury and Trimley W.I.s. It is our turn to set the competition this year and as the speaker will be talking about Emily Pankhurst we thought we would go along with the suffragette theme. The challenge will be to create a facsimile front-page report of the suffragettes’ burning of the Bath Hotel in Felixstowe but to design it in the style of a modern day red-topped newspaper.

February 2011

Hintlesham Hall had special rates on lunches and teas for W.I.s in January. Although we were not given much notice we managed to get a group of eighteen together, including one man, our president Iris’s husband (what a brave chap!), to give the lunch a go. It turned out to be a splendid occasion – excellent food and service in a beautiful setting. The general opinion afterwards was, “We must do this again.”
At our February meeting Mr Mackley came to speak about and give us a taster of 1930s and 40s music. Read More...

January 2011

Dr Geoffrey Kay who came to speak at our January meeting on the Crystal Palace and the Great Exhibition had just acquired a new digital projector with all sorts of potential to go wrong, he told us. In fact there was some bother with Windows appearing, informing him that his virus protection had expired but this was soon dealt with. Read More...
