The Kirton ProjectThe Kirton Project supports the work of the Community Concern Society for tsunami relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sri Lanka. WHAT IS IT?It is an initiative we have set up here in KIRTON & FALKENHAM to support victims of the Boxing Day 2004 Tsunami. At the beginning of 2005, events were held at Kirton Church Hall, Kirton Methodist Chapel & the White Horse which raised a great deal of money for people whose lives had been devastated by the massive tidal wave. As a result of the success of these fund-raisers, a team of people have come together to give on-going help to a specific community. The community are being re-housed in an area called Dehiwala, just south of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. We are linked into a group called Community Concern Society (CCS) a non-profit making organisation. All monies raised will go direct to CCS and be used absolutely to help re-establish life for one small community, they have the land and now need help for new housing, medical centres, schools etc.
We want the KIRTON PROJECT to be here in our village as a community effort and also to put out tentacles into countryside and towns and villages around us with the hope that others like us will want to help and join in with this very worthwhile cause. WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FARWe have held 2 coffee mornings & a hot chocolate morning. FORTHCOMING EVENTSApril 20th Wine tasting. Kirton Church Hall. For the latest newsletter click here. (pdf file) |
