July 2010
17/07/10 20:27
The July meeting was attended by 11 Parish Councillors, the County Councillor, a District Councillor and 2 Parishioners.
Mrs P O’Brien (CC) outlined the initiatives, the County Council were taking, to establish working partnerships with public sector organisations and the police. One ambition is to share premises, and the early stages of the programme will involve joint purchase and occupation of two buildings in Ipswich. A saving of £500k is anticipated, particularly as the size of the reduction in local government grants is now known. Mrs S Green (DC) concurred with Mrs O’Brien, saying that similar areas of co-operation were in hand with Waveney DC.
Police work is focusing on Anti Social Behaviour issues. A late report from the Police showed that June was not a good month for the villages; a case of phone fraud , thefts from two cars and a garage burglary were reported, though it was emphasised that locking vehicles and keeping valuables out of sight would prevent some of these crimes. Speeding vehicles were still being reported, and Pc Gledhill will continue to make speed checks.
The Council agreed to advise SCC of the poor visibility, due to undergrowth, for vehicles emerging from Innocence Lane and Back Road, which has safety implications, and may have contributed to a recent accident.
It was noted that there had been further recent incidents of sewage smells in parts of Kirton, and the questions being raised with Anglian Water by the Consumer Council for Water, on behalf of a resident, will be carefully monitored, pending a meeting with residents and AW.
The format of a Parish Newsletter to be issued with the Review in September was agreed.
Discussions with BT about redundant poles throughout the village continue, and EDF will be chased about similar poles which they have to remove.
The Council has received a copy of the SCDC Final LDF Interim Policy document. The Environment Agency’s consultation until 9th August on the Suffolk Estuarine Strategies, particularly regarding the Deben, will be considered by Councillors during the coming month. (The document is available on www.suffolkestuaries.co.uk/Deben/Consultation.htm)
The plaque commemorating the contributions by June Metcalfe to the Village Sign and Christmas tree is ready for installation.
Redecoration of two changing rooms in the Pavilion will take place during the summer, efforts to deter pigeons on the swings continue and the Roundabout and gate need attention. Reseeding of the pitches took place in May, but has been affected by the lack of rain.
The planning committee has considered two applications during the month, and studied, at the conclusion of the meeting, applications for an addition to the Maltings, and an extension to a property in Rectory Lane.
The next Council meeting is on 23rd August in the Recreation Ground Pavilion.
