January 2010

PARISH COUNCIL: The January 2010 meeting was attended by 8 Parish Councillors and a District Councillor. The Christmas Tree Lighting-up Ceremony had attracted around 80 parishioners and children; £52 had been collected and forwarded to the Salvation Army. Thanks were recorded to Councillors Barker and Jacobs for a well decorated tree. The Clerk had sent a card to Bernard (fish & chip van) thanking him for ensuring refreshments were available as usual, wishing him a speedy recovery and return.
SCDC had advised that BT had assessed the use of red telephone boxes around the district with a view to decommissioning. Clerk had made an interim response regarding the Falkenham box, from which there had been no calls in the past year. It was agreed that the Council has no objection to the service being removed, but as the box is Listed, it cannot be removed and there is no need for the Council to consider adoption.
The Council noted the outcome of the judicial review on the Boundary Committee proposals, a briefing note on the new Sizewell Nuclear PS, and await further consultation approaches.
The Play Area has been inspected and 3 areas of serious risk were noted which are receiving urgent attention. The football pitches had been “vertidrained” during December to improve drainage. It was agreed to pursue, in the absence of interest from larger companies, a limited rabbit cull offer.
Strong representations had been made to SCC about the lack of gritting of Falkenham/Back Roads, which are now bus routes; District Councillor Kerry offered to pursue it with SCC as a matter of urgency.
Following a blockage in the sewage system, before Christmas, which caused problems to some residents of Bucklesham Road/Burnt House Lane and field drains; a resident in the vicinity of the overflow reported the incident to Anglian Water, the Environment Agency and the Landowner of the affected ditch. A meeting is to be arranged with Anglian Water and other interested parties regarding the incident.
The Council continues to seek a replacement for the Tree Warden. Details will, shortly, be posted on the notice board at the Bus Shelter, on how to contact the bus companies direct or on line.
It was agreed to request a precept of £13,820 for the year 2010/11, a reduction of £3,174 on the current year.
Five planning applications had been considered since the November meeting.
The next meeting is on 8th February 2010 in the Recreation Ground pavilion.
