January 2005
11/01/05 12:38
The January 2005 meeting was attended by 11 councillors and the County Councillor.
Various highway matters continue. The signs at the Trimley Road junction and a 30 mph repeater sign in Church Lane are still awaited, but repairs to pot holes in Alley Road and at other places in the village have been attended to. A survey of drainage flooding points has been undertaken, and once checked for omissions will be forwarded to SCC.
Risk Assessments for the Recreation Ground and Village Green has been prepared and will be submitted for adoption at the next Council meeting. Concern was expressed following publication of the Trinity House development plan for the Trimleys; the Council agreed that the preparation of a Village Plan was now essential and will be an item on the next agenda. A further report has been received from the Highway Agency on eastbound flow at the Dockspur roundabout. The statistics quoted were considered contradictory and in view of further and recent lorry incidents, the Council’s continuing dissatisfaction will be forwarded to the Agency. SALC are holding a seminar on the East of England plan on 27th January and 4 councillors will attend. It was agreed to support Nacton PC’s campaign to press for installation of a quiet road surface on A14 in connection with the Felixstowe Regeneration Plan Inquiry. While the question of purchasing a speed gun was apparently presently on hold, the Council resolved not to support making a contribution. A precept for 2005/6 of £10,490 will be requested, which includes £500 going to reserves. Contributions have been promised from SCC Locality Budget to purchase a new notice board for Kirton and for furniture in the new pavilion. The police reported that there had been no crimes in the Parish over the past 2 months. Typical crimes affecting other villages included theft of fuel from vehicles at night and theft of handbags from unlocked cars at riding stables. The Christmas Tree was a great success this year; £80 was collected given equally to EACH and Salvation Army. Only 2 lamps were lost. The Parish Council are very grateful to Mike Rhodes for his work over some 20 years tending the shrubs on the Village Green; Mr Robert Wright has taken over from him and has pruned the shrubs this year. It was reported that some properties in Meadowlands had never received Brown Bins; Suggested there may be those in the Parish who have bins they do not use and could pass offer them to those in need. The Village Sign on the Green is badly in need of painting and this will be carried out in the Spring, along with giving the inside of the Bus Shelter a coat of cuprinol after the graffiti has been removed. The hedge at Back Road entrance to the Recreation Ground has been cut back to improve visibility. Mrs Wardner (PTLO) reported a complaint of overcrowding of a morning bus by school children, which she will personally investigate. The County and District Councillors reported on the results of the Comprehensive Performance Assessments of their authorities. Mrs O’Brien (CC) confirmed that the revised school parking orders in the lay-by would operated on school days only and not between 9.30am and 3 pm.
The next meeting is on Monday 21st February 2005 in the Recreation Ground Pavilion.
Colin Shaw, Clerk
