March 2006

PARISH COUNCIL: The March meeting was attended by 10 Parish Councillors, 2 District Councillors, the Community police Officer and 2 parishioners.
The resignation of Mrs June Metcalfe was received with much regret, but understanding. A tribute to her services as a Parish Councillor since 1964 and as a District Councillor was given by the Chairman and endorsed by the Councillors. The subsequent Casual Vacancy will be advertised.
A response to the NHS Patient -Led Consultation was prepared for submission, and Councillors are considering the proposals in the Local Development Framework. It was agreed not to enter the Village of the Year Competition. The quotation from SCDC to cut the Village green in the coming season was accepted. Membership of the Suffolk Preservation Society will be renewed. The Council has been advised that the Tree Preservation Order on oaks on Bucklesham Road had been confirmed. SCC has declined to kerb the length of Falkenham Road along side the Green, but had offered to kerb around the drainage gullies; they have agreed to renew the white lines at the Church/Rectory Lanes junction, but gritting of Rectory Lane cannot be entertained. Concerns have arisen over the apparent proposal of Anglian Water to rely on CCTV to determine whether jetting of sewers is necessary around Burnt House Lane; this would seem to be contrary to the original agreement and Anglian Water will be asked to clarify the position.
Mrs O’Brien (CC) has been appointed to the Board of Learning & Skills Council, and her report outlined various initiatives and appointments in the area of education. The County Council is looking at alternatives to landfill for waste disposal, and public consultation events will take place. Policies on any outbreak of Asian Flu have been prepared. Mrs Dixon (DC) gave an update on the proposed issue of Wheelie Bins in Kirton. She had responded to complaints about smells from refuse burning in Falkenham. Mrs Green (DC) reported on the Districts response to the proposed reorganisation of Primary Care Trusts. Mrs Wardner (PTLO) reported on instances of buses running early. She had had an opportunity to talk to the owner of Country Travel about breakdowns, and the possibility of evening services to Felixstowe, but the latter was a problem in finding drivers. Pc Daly observed that there had been 2 crimes in Falkenham and none in Falkemham and he is continuing to monitor the parking of vehicles on junction verges.
Following the Annual meeting in April the Annual Parish Council meeting will be held on May 8th.
Colin Shaw, Clerk
